What is Chaotic Creations Latex? What is all the fuss about?

A new Tech!! Chaotic Creations low odor, high viscosity, thick coating, more stretch, versatile premium slip cast mask latex.

RD407 and variants of it have been the industry standard. We wouldn’t know.. we stopped using it over 10years ago and replaced it with a latex that can make a thicker casting without dwell time. Has a more rubbery and less plastic like cure. More flex more stretch. A highly versatile product that can be used in all sorts of applications. Our latex goes through a deammoniation  process which greatly reduces the volatile smell and makes it more pleasant to work with. With all these great properties it is your responsibility as a technician to adapt your processes. We use it regularly without issue. This is a high viscosity mixture design to coat in a pour in, pour out scenario. 5 to 10 min dwell time. You must be aware of pooling areas and make sure you have a nice dry mold. We recommend to speed up drying to put you mold out in the sun and open air. This product was created for us used by use us exclusively. Was only originally only offered to close friends and experienced mask makers and technicians.

No returns, so if your not comfortable with your ability to adapt do not order this product.

This is how we do it

-Brush coat: use a chip brush to a coat for the latex to flow on. High viscosity materials can skip across detail or recessed areas if you do not create a wet flow path to reduce surface tension.

-pour: fill the mold 3/4 and shake the air pockets to surface

-pour out: make sure to rotate the mold allowing time for deep recessed areas to drain. Areas where it pools will take longer to dry.

-allow to really drain: let your mold drain on the bucket for about a hour. This latex really clings to the surface.

-The sun is your friend: I usually set the mold open faced to the sun in the driveway, the heat help the dry.

-tooth pick test: Before ripping the latex out of the mold you might want to feel for moisture. Deep areas may not be dry. test it like you would a cake with a toothpick…you will know quickly if it is dry or just skinned over. If it is not dry…most likely you forgot the sun is your friend..or any of the other steps in draining.

-be patient: You rushing is not bad product. . It is bad procedure. If a cake is half cooked you don’t serve it. Short cut always result in more work. There are many variations that can happen humidity, krylon residue on the mold, wet molds, running a mold back to back with no air out. temperature, air flow, thickness, pooling. Part of the job of an FX person is making things work…not waving a magic wand and expecting immediate gratification.
